In southern Gaza, Hamas has released eight hostages: five Thai nationals and three Israelis—29-year-old civilian Arbel Yehud, 20-year-old soldier Agam Berger, and 80-year-old Gadi Moses. In exchange, 110 Palestinian detainees will be released, including 33 serving life sentences, 47 sentenced to various prison terms, and 30 minors and women.
Agam Berger was the first to be released and handed over to the Red Cross. Taken to the stage set up for her liberation, Berger greeted with a smile. She had been held hostage for 482 days after being captured by Hamas on October 7, just two days after arriving at a base near the Gaza border.
Following her, 29-year-old Israeli-German Arbel Yehud and 80-year-old Gadi Moses were handed over to the Red Cross by the Islamic Jihad. Both were kidnapped from Kibbutz Nir Oz on October 7. After them, the five Thai hostages were also released.
Israel has sent a furious message to Qatari mediators regarding the conditions of Arbel Yehud and Gadi Moses’ release, as they were forced to move through a crushing crowd in chaos before reaching the Red Cross. Israeli media described the footage from Khan Younis as “images of horror.”
More than half a million displaced Palestinians have returned to northern Gaza via the al-Rashid and Salah al-Din roads in the past 72 hours, according to the Gaza government, as reported by Al Jazeera.
