“Police intervened this morning in Westminster after a man was seen climbing the tower that houses Big Ben, Sky News reports.
According to a spokesperson for the London Metropolitan Police, ‘At 7:24 AM on Saturday, March 8, officers were alerted to a man climbing the Elizabeth Tower at the Houses of Parliament. Officers are on the scene and working to bring the incident to a safe conclusion. They are assisted by firefighters and ambulance services.’
Meanwhile, Bridge Street, located at the northern end of Westminster Bridge, has been closed to allow emergency services to manage the incident. A spokesperson for the London Fire Brigade (LFB) stated that teams from the Lambeth, Chelsea, Soho, and Islington fire stations have been deployed.
At least nine emergency service vehicles lined the street in central London while crowds watched from behind a police cordon.
The man was seen climbing the Big Ben tower as the group Palestine Action claimed to have written ‘Gaza is not for sale’ on Donald Trump’s Turnberry golf course in Scotland. Sharing an image of the protest action, the group wrote on X: ‘While Trump tries to treat Gaza as his own property, he should know that his own property is within reach.'”
