With farmers set to stage another protest in Brussels on Tuesday (26 March), police in the capital warn motorists to expect considerable disruption to traffic across the Brussels-Capital Region. Commuters are advised to seek alternative forms of transport to get to and from work tomorrow.
In a statement Brussels police said that “Another big farmers’ demonstration announced for Tuesday 26 March means that there may be traffic problems in the Brussels-Capital Region. From 6 am the Wetstraat will be closed between the Schuman Roundabout and the Brussels Inner Ring Road (R20). The Reyers Tunnel that carries traffic from the end of the E40 towards the City Centre and the Jubelpark Tunnel will both be closed to traffic.
Furthermore, “The Brussels Inner Ring Road may be inaccessible to cars at certain times. This will also be the case at the Kunst-Wet intersection. Streets in the vicinity of the Wetstraat and the European District may also experience disruption”.
Most of those taking part in the demonstration will already be heading for the Wetstraat via arterial roads through the suburbs from early in the morning, and the traffic problems could persist until late afternoon.”
The police advise against travelling to Brussels by car on Tuesday. Those that are able to are advised to use public transport or to cycle to work.
