Dozens of rush-hour trains through Schiphol airport have been cancelled after an overhead power line failed on Wednesday morning.

Train operator NS said it was running a reduced schedule after the problem was reported at around 7am.

Around two-thirds of trains to and from Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Leiden are not running and the Intercity service to Hilversum is cancelled altogether. NS said the restrictions would last until at least 11.45am.

Passengers have been warned to expect congestion and allow extra time for their journey. People travelling from Amsterdam Centraal to the airport are advised to take the metro to Amsterdam Zuid and transfer to the main line there.
