A new strike has erupted at the Flemish public transport company De Lijn, affecting bus and tram services along the coast and in Mechelen, a company spokesperson has confirmed.

No buses are operating from the Mechelen depot. The strike has also impacted depots along the coast, namely Knokke, Ostend and De Panne. Coastal trams are not running at all.

There has been a wave of spontaneous strikes at De Lijn recently. Last week, disruptions occurred around Brussels and the Kempen region.

The unrest is linked to schedule changes which the company plans to implement from January. This would change the system from fixed schedules to shift work. These changes are being negotiated on a regional basis.

Travellers are advised to consult the online route planner or De Lijn app for updated information on their trips.
